ESPORTS: Álvaro Carretón signs contract extension with Williams Esports

The new contract sees the 23-year-old driver extend his stint at the team, continuing his role with us as a Formula 1 Esports driver for another year.

After signing with the team 7 years ago, in 2018, Álvaro has maintained his position at Williams Esports as one of our premier drivers, racing across a variety of Formula 1 Esports series from the official F1 Sim Racing series, to the PSGL and WOR league racing series.

Álvaro’s development as a driver has been displayed on the world stage, seeing him take 3 podiums, 2 pole positions, and 3 top 10 F1 Sim Racing finishes, bringing home a total of 201 points for the team across his F1 Sim Racing career, with a career best season finish of P8 back in 2019.

The 2023/24 Formula One Sim Racing season saw Álvaro overcome some early struggles to take home two consecutive P6 finishes, and then 3 consecutive P8’s to finish the season in P12 in the Drivers’ Championship.

Álvaro said: “I’m happy to resign with Williams Esports for one more season. We’re now clearly going in the right direction making improvements, I saw a lot of positives things during the last year and having Ismael as a teammate was a pleasant experience.

“I'm ready to give my absolute best for the upcoming season.”

Team Manager Jake Hammond said: "I'm pleased to have Álvaro re-sign with us. He's an important member of the group, who has significantly contributed to shaping the shift in direction of the team since I've joined.

“Álvaro brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and ability to our F1 Sim Racing roster, and I know that after a positive end to the 23/24 season, he's ready take this momentum and kick on to even better performances with us in the future.
