Williams Esports will return for ESL R1 2024

With the Rennsport-powered ESL R1 series making a return for its second year, Mercedes-AMG Team Williams Esports are back with a fresh new look, including the evolved 2024 livery, to mark the team’s ‘next chapter’ and the arrival of some new faces in the driver line up.

Williams is looking to build on a successful first season, in which they achieved multiple wins, podiums and pole positions, became the first team to take two victories and have all four drivers reach a round final, qualified for both Majors and finished third in the Winter Season team standings.

Heading into 2024, the team have brought in a trio of new drivers alongside Irish-born race-winner Daire McCormack, who remains in the roster after a hugely impressive performance across the whole of last season, standing on the top step in both the Spring, Winter and Mid-Season events, and narrowly missing out on the Drivers’ title in third.

Daire - “I'm really looking forward to this new season of ESL R1, with a whole new line-up of teammates I know well and race with very often on other platforms, so we understand each other.

“We have all driven in ESL together before but not as one complete team of four. I think we can do very well this time around. If everything falls into place, I’m hoping to come away with big smiles on our faces.

“Once again, I’m very happy to represent Mercedes-AMG for the third season running, it’s always a pleasure!”

Joining the superstar in 2024 are three previous ESL R1 debutants, two of whom have shared success with Daire on ACC:

Dennis, 20, makes his comeback after he first took to the Rennsport stage early in the last Spring season, and reached the first ever Major in his home country – Munich, German – alongside McCormack.

Dominik (24, Poland) and Daniel (21, Slovakia) both gained promotion to full time drives for R1 after displaying their amazing talent on the Rennsport platform across the season, on different occasions as reserves, respectively.

Highlights include Daniel’s heroic effort at the mid-season tournament which saw him jump into the seat late on, replacing an injured Nikodem Wisniewski and playing an important but high pressure role as the deciding driver to qualify the team into the final. Throughout the televised event, he succeeded in some remarkable overtakes, despite being a new entry to the competition.

Dominik had to wait until the final round of the winter season to get his first chance in R1, stepping in for Jack Keithley on the iconic Daytona Circuit, usually a host for endurance events and eNascar. He grasped the opportunity and immediately stunned everyone, claiming second on debut, after a fight for the quarter final win, and reaching the semi final, displaying himself as a stand out talent, deserving of the full-time gig.

Dominik - “I'm super excited to be racing in ESL R1 this year for Williams, especially with the amazing line up we have this season that I know very well.

“Overall, I’m feeling pretty confident with the newly-released Rennsport patch, which is far different from when I last competed back in the Winter Series at Daytona. The pace is there and I’ve got a good understanding of the car and the sim itself, so I’m looking to bring back some strong results for the team this season.

“As a whole, we’re comfortable as a team and are working really well together so I believe we can fight for the championship this year.”

Daniel - “I’m going into the first race with really positive momentum. Our pace looks promising and I'm very comfortable. It's amazing to be back on Rennsport after a while and feel one with the car already again, but we can’t be complacent, there’s plenty to work on still. We have to put this confidence into results. Anything can happen in this series, but I think this season should be a good one not only for me, but for the whole team.

“It’s just nice to be back in such a brilliant competition again, I really enjoyed it last time out at Riyadh.”

ESL R1 attracted millions of fans across the globe last year for the online rounds, the Majors and the Mid-Season tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The highly-anticipated and competitive sim racing championship is ready for an even bigger and better season than before.

The 2024 Spring campaign will run across four months from May 17th - August 25th, as 12 teams and 48 drivers fight for the $500,000 prize pool and qualification into the crown jewel finale at the inaugural Esports World Cup, held in Riyadh.
