The new season is drawing into view and Atlassian Williams Racing are gearing up for 2025 with a fresh-faced line-up.
Ahead of the new campaign, Alex, Carlos and Jenson spoke to ‘The Fast and the Curious’ podcast, to explain what we can expect over the coming months.
Neighbours and nibbles
With the experienced Carlos Sainz joining Alex Albon, Williams’ line-up for 2025 now looks very different to how it has done in recent years.
But it turns out the two drivers already go way back, having been neighbours for a number of years in Monaco.
“I was the OG. I was there from day one,” Alex told the podcast. “He moved in next to me, maybe he just wanted to be near me.”
“I didn’t bump into him too much but there’s just little things, like I know what his delivery order is like. I know he likes caviar, I’m going to put him on the spot there.”
When asked about those culinary preferences, Carlos replied, “Who doesn’t like caviar and sushi first of all… but if I had to choose my favourite food it would be hamburgers. I’m a crazy hamburger guy.
“Every city I go to I search on the internet ‘top 10 hamburgers in the city’.
“Austin does very good burgers. Melbourne and Montreal do good burgers. I would say those three.
“Normally I do it on Wednesdays so it gives me the Thursday to lose the weight.”
There are perhaps three certainties in life — death, taxes and Carlos eating a hamburger somewhere in Melbourne on the Wednesday before opening weekend of the F1 season!
‘Downloading’ Carlos
Carlos’ introduction to Williams is one of the biggest talking points ahead of the new season — and Brand Ambassador Jenson Button was just as excited as anyone about his involvement.
He does, however, expect him to be in for a shock re-adjusting to the English weather after spending three years with Ferrari.
“I think he’s got a bit of a shock coming to Silverstone though, in February to launch,” Jenson said.
“A lot less pasta in his belly probably than he’s used to as well.
“No, it’s a great line-up and from what Carlos and the team have said, they’ve just been ‘downloading’ him over the last few months.
“They’ve been trying to take all of his experience working with McLaren, working with Ferrari over the last few years, because it’s always interesting to know how teams went about their business.”

Carlos’ potential proudest moment
Carlos’ switch from Ferrari to Williams represents a significant moment in his career.
Despite the new challenges he’ll have to face, he didn’t hold back in his desire to win, when asked about his objectives for this term.
“I want to win,” he said. “I am coming to Williams to try and help the process of recovery to the top of the field in as short a time as possible and I believe I can help in that.
“The challenge motivates me.
“If one day I can get on a podium or get a win with Williams, that moment will be for sure the proudest moment [for me].”
When asked about his goals for the new season, Alex insisted he was keen to keep the momentum up with Williams and make sure they continue striving forward.
“Of course my dream would be to score a podium this year,” he said.
Our Thai racer then added: “I honestly think that if we can finish this season and feel that we’ve really got on top of a lot of the issues that we had last year — so you know, the parts, the overweights side of thing, the quality control areas — there’s a few big things that we’ve really put a lot of effort into this year.
“That to me is what a good year is.”
