We’re celebrating reaching our 800th Grand Prix in Formula 1 and to mark the occasion, you can get your hands on six special-edition posters.
They’re completely free to download* and highlight each of the five decades that Williams Racing have competed in the top tier of motorsport.
We caught up with our Head of Creative Design, Ed Scott, to get a closer look at the inspiration behind the designs...
“The concept behind the posters was to pick out key eras from our history - rather than focusing on cars, drivers and wins,” Ed said.
“This meant that we could keep to some very obvious landmarks. It was a bit more all-encompassing and from a graphical and visual perspective, it's quite powerful because each era is strikingly different.
“So, we outlined the eras with the car designs and brands that we thought were the strongest from each era, then we briefed these into one of our amazing creatives, Rhys.
“We then outlined the kind of that we wanted from each era, so the ‘70s should be funky and retro, the ‘80s more Back to the Future, the ‘90s inspired by pop and music creative, then the 2000s more of a dramatic, futuristic almost ‘Terminator’ feel.
“The 2010s design was based around the famous Martini branding and a more contemporary Cubist style, then the 2023 poster should be current futuristic and a little more Tron than the others.
“We probably had 12 sessions over four weeks and averaged four or five iterations of each design before we got to where we are now. I think they're fantastic and really fun.
“We're only doing a limited run of them to keep them unique and the creative from these posters is also going to be used in our London Fan Zone, which will not only help lift the store, but also give newer fans a fun history lesson!
“We’re also going to try and feed them into a few other projects going forward so watch this space and hopefully some of you might be lucky enough to get your hands on them…”
