Get ready for Formula 1’s return to Europe

It’s race week and we are hitting a busy period on the Formula 1 calendar, and we’re all set to take on the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix.
Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant will be in action at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the second time as a duo and you can keep up with everything here on the website or our app.
In the meantime, here are five points for Williams Racing fans to focus on during our race weekend…

Rising stars in Barcelona

The F1 Academy series returns to the fold for round three in Barcelona.
Williams Racing Academy representative Lia Block got off the mark in Miami last time out with a P10 finish in what was her first single-seater race at the Miami International Autodrome.
Free practice takes place Friday morning, followed by Qualifying, then Race 1 on Saturday evening and Race 2 early on Sunday morning.
Elsewhere, Franco Colapinto and Zak O’Sullivan are racing in Formula 2 while Luke Browning is aiming to regain his championship lead in Formula 3.
Make sure to mark your calendars for the stars of the future this weekend.

Former home of testing

Prior to the Bahrain International Circuit, Formula 1 conducted all of its pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The session gives teams an opportunity to test their cars ahead of the opening race and allows everyone to see all the new cars on track for the first time.
For a time, these testing sessions took place in Barcelona, as elevation changes, different corner types and straight lengths helped put in the best challenge for the cars.
This also means the drivers and teams know this track like the back of their hand, which results in even better on-track battles.

More wet weather?

After the wet conditions in Montreal at the Canadian GP, rain could threaten again, this time in Barcelona.
With nine races in the books, only one has seen rain fall on the all-important Sunday.
But as reported by our latest Weather Watch, the forecast looks set for some light rain in the morning, drying as the day progresses.

Defining Williams venue

Some of the best Williams Racing moments have come at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in particular, has seen some fond moments as we claimed the first four victories at the venue from 1991 to 1994.
Nigel Mansell hoisted the trophy back-to-back before Alain Prost won in 1993, and Damon Hill took the top step in 1994 - it was a truly dominant Williams era.
For Nigel in 1992 and Alain in 1993, it was especially important, as both drivers went on to claim the World Drivers’ Championship respectively.
