Edition 5: The FW25 ends our 20-year Monaco drought
FW25 2003 - Juan Pablo Montoya - Monaco GP
The 2003 FW25 marked a step in a new direction for Williams, incorporating a completely new design from its predecessor, the FW24.
The FW25 was immediately competitive, and it was through both drivers, notably Colombian driver, Juan Pablo Montoya, who managed to find the full potential of the Williams car through the streets of Monaco.
Qualifying in third place, the FW25 had a harmonious balance and driveability that provided an exciting opportunity to score points. Despite concerns about an engine problem towards the end of the race, a perfect strategy of tactically timed pit stops, combined with exceptional driving, was enough to secure the first win in Monte Carlo since 1983.
The 2003 FW25 was truly a ‘what if’ season at Williams. The Monaco result sparked a bullish run, with the team securing a top three for the following seven races until the Hungarian GP, where adaptations to regulations affected the chances of Williams securing a 21st-century Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship.
