We are delighted to announce that Franco Colapinto will make the step up to FIA Formula 2 for the 2024 season with MP Motorsport.
Our Argentinian racer will make his F2 debut at the final round of this season's championship in Abu Dhabi.
The 20-year-old member of our Driver Academy graduates Formula 3 with four race victories, five pole positions and 10 podiums during his two seasons in the category.
He ended the 2023 season fourth in the championship with 110 points to his name following a consistent year that saw him finish 14 of the 18 races inside the points, never qualifying lower than P12.
“I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity,” Franco shared following the announcement.
“We’ve been working really hard to secure a seat in F2 so this is a dream come true. To be able to do it with MP Motorsport makes it even more special.
“Thanks to Sander and Henk [at MP Motorsport] for their trust and continuing to support me. Being part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy this past year has been an incredible experience and I can’t wait to jump into my F2 car in Abu Dhabi.
“I am grateful to all my sponsors who have been with me this season and those who joined me for the next stage of my career. I wouldn’t be where I am now without your hard work and sacrifices.
“And last but not least, Gracias Argentina! The love and support I receive from my home country every day lifts me up and pushes me through the toughest times.
“I couldn’t be prouder to fly the flag in F2.“
Franco steps up the motorsport ladder with MP Motorsport, the team that claimed the 2022 Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships in Formula 2.
Our young Argentinian is no stranger to the Dutch outfit, having raced for them in Formula Renault Eurocup in 2020, FRECA in 2021 and Formula 3 this year.
We look forward to seeing Franco continue his progression both at the end of this season and into 2024 – Vamos Franco!
