The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix perhaps epitomised our luck in the final stages of the 2024 season, with Alex Albon coming so close to making the one-stop work before finishing P11.
Franco Colapinto’s race took an early hit when he was struck from behind by Oscar Piastri, before a power unit issue forced him to retire after just 26 laps.
After the race, Alex was quick to praise the work of the entire team during what has been a tricky campaign. His Race Engineer, James Urwin (JU), thanked Albono for his efforts, as did Team Principal, James Vowles (JV)
JU: That was a tight one at the end, but a brilliant effort. Well done. It was a little bit short on tyres there to make that work, but we were in with a shout.
AA: Thank you everyone for this year. I've said it a hundred times but I know it's not been easy. Just appreciate all of you. And we have some good things coming next year so I'm excited. I feel good about it. Get some rest after the test.
JV: Well said, Alex. Well driven. I think the best we could have achieved today. A little bit of a difficult stint for you in a difficult time this year, but thank you for persevering. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your future vision. Once more on this channel, well done to everyone. It's been a tough year, but it will only make us stronger.
When it became clear that Franco would have to pull in and end his nine-race run with the team early, Gaetan Jego (GJ), his Race Engineer, delivered clear instructions to our Argentine racer.
GJ: OK, OK. Slow down, slow down. PU cooling. Box, box, we are retiring. Watch out Norris, three behind. Followed by Sainz. You can go off line sector three. No full throttle, cool the car. Box box.
JV: I'm sorry Franco, this is not how I wanted your last race to be. We have a PU issue. It's been a pleasure this year. Thank you.
FC: Thank you guys for this opportunity. I enjoyed the experience a lot.
GJ: Thank you, buddy. Speaking for everyone in the garage, it was a pleasure. Sorry about today, that’s definitely not the most fun race, but I hope you still enjoyed it. You got some good laps in the clean air with a damaged car, so good job mate.
