Williams Esports is pleased to announce the loan signing of F1 Sim Racing star Marcel Kiefer. The 25-year-old German will join the team’s F1 Sim Racing Pro Series line-up for the 2023/24 season on loan from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports Team.
An impressive campaign in 2017 saw Marcel make his sim racing debut just a month before the F1 Esports qualifiers and immediately make a name for himself.
With minimal driving time, he reached the semi-final in London, competing against the fastest in the world, and displayed his natural talent, achieving a podium finish after starting at the back of the grid and following that up with a fourth place.
He soon joined Force India and the F1 Pro Series grid, where he finished fifth in the championship in his rookie season.
Now with five years of experience in F1 Sim Racing, Marcel has firmly established himself as one of the best in the competition with three career wins.
His maiden victory was at the Silverstone Grand Prix in 2019, which he followed up with wins in 2020 and 2021, multiple podiums, a handful of top 10 finishes and contributed to the Constructors’ World Championship title with Red Bull in 2021.
Marcel now heads to Williams Esports with the experience and intelligence to play a crucial part in the team’s drive for success in the upcoming competition.
F1 Sim Racing is the official Esports competition of the Formula 1 World Championship that sees all ten teams from the real F1 grid race virtually with professional sim drivers across 12 rounds, competing for a Drivers’ and Constructors’ title.
It first started in 2017 which saw 63,000 racers enter the qualification stages; since then, it has only grown more serious in both its popularity and skill level, where the whole grid can be split by just a narrow tenth of a second difference in pace on track.
Marcel Kiefer: “I am extremely excited to join Williams Esports and represent the prestigious name in the competitive field of sim racing. Everybody at Grove is truly enthusiastic and full of determination in every aspect which, as a pure racer at heart, fills me with complete joy. I cannot wait to get started together and achieve fantastic results with the team! “
Steven English, Director of Williams Esports: “It is a great pleasure to have Marcel join us for this season. Since first stepping onto the F1 Esports scene, he’s shown his quality on and off track as a winner, a leader, and an example of professionalism. We always strive for elite performance and believe Marcel’s ability in the car, his dedication and positive attitude as a team player, will strengthen our roster and help deliver success for the team.”
