Split strategies and a frantic finish made for a tricky PWP in Baku

Alex scored six points. Franco scored four points. But how many points did you score in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix?
We challenged you with eight questions in our free-to-play game, Pit Wall Predictions, presented by Gulf, to test your strategic might in Baku.
How did you do, and could you beat our Grove insider, known only as The Strategist, this weekend?
Read on to find out how the scores unfolded on Sunday.

Q1 & Q2: On which lap will Alex/Franco make their first stop?

With both FW46 cars lining up next to each other on the grid, the Williams Racing strategy team thought it best to split the tyre plans.
Franco began the race on mediums, pitting on Lap 10, with Alex's hards going to Lap 31 before he swapped compound.
Just 22.6% got this right for Franco, but it was Alex's strategy that caught out most, as only 0.4% of players correctly picked Lap 31-40 as their answer.
Most players went with The Strategist's picks of Lap 11-20 and scored zero points in these opening two questions.

Q3: When will our fastest lap be recorded?

Alex running a combination of low fuel and quick tyres in the race's later stages meant his fastest lap – and F1's fifth quickest Baku tour of the day – came on Lap 43.
This timing meant 'Lap 40+' was the right choice, as The Strategist and 56% of players predicted.

Q4: How many full Safety Car periods will there be?

There always seems to be drama in Azerbaijan, and 2024 was no exception after the crash in the final laps.
With only a handful of laps remaining, the race director chose the VSC rather than the full Safety Car to clean up the debris.
The Strategist thought there'd be one full Safety Car slowdown, as did 62.5% of you, but it was the 12.7% who chose 'zero' who scored points.

Q5: How many pit stops will our drivers make between them?

The two Williams Racing cars inverted their strategies, but this wasn't a race where a two-stopper would've worked, so each driver visited the pit lane once.
'Two' is what 52.1% of players predicted, but The Strategist seemingly hoped for a mid-race Safety Car or high tyre degradation with their wrong choice of 'four'.

Q6 & Q7: Which tyre will Alex/Franco end their race on?

The split of Pirelli tyres meant Alex crossed the line on mediums, with Franco running hards.
Although Alex's choice caught out most players, although some 26% scored points here.
Franco, however, made the majority happy, including The Strategist, scoring 63.9% of players five points for his medium-to-hard tyre plan.

Q8: Where will the leading Williams driver finish the race?

It doesn't matter if you thought Alex or Franco would be the leading Williams Racing driver in Baku, as both took brilliant points home to make P6-P10 the correct answer.
Our pace since the car upgrade and the strong qualifying performance on Saturday gave confidence to most players.
Two-thirds (66%) went for P6-P10, including The Strategist, to round out this week's PWP.
The Strategist's Score: 3/8 – Not the best round for the lofty standards of our Grove guru, who perhaps expected the carnage to unfold earlier in the race.
Those 15 points represent the most common score for the Azerbaijan GP, with 33.2% getting three questions correct.
A single player reached the peak of Baku with 7/8 to collect 35 points, so well done if that was you.
It's still neck and neck at the top of the leaderboard as we head to Singapore, with two players continuing to share the P1 spot.
The Strategist, however, drops back from P7 to P8, so will need to score high at Marina Bay to improve on those 325 points.
