We have a browse through some unique designs

After Alex Albon revealed his unique British Grand Prix helmet design, featuring all of his pets, it got us thinking: what other unlikely items have featured on Formula One lids down the years?
Well, we’ve trawled through the archives and here are just a few of the stranger items to have graced the circuit.

Sheriff Badge

The United States Grand Prix often brings out some creativity from the drivers, and George Russell embraced the occasion in 2021 with this Wild West-themed design.
The main feature of this particular lid was three Sheriff badges, with his number 63 proudly in the centre.
To our understanding, these Sheriff badges may well be the quickest in history, as we’re fairly certain a standard US police car can’t reach speeds in excess of 320km/h.

Street Art

Felipe Massa brought some Sao Paulo flavour to the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix with this eye-catching lid.
The design itself was created by Brazilian Street Artists OsGemeos, which translates as The Twins.
Felipe gave Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo the title of “greatest graffiti artists in the world” when he launched this lid, during a year when helmet design changes brought with them a penalty.

Reggae Star

The first-ever Indian Grand Prix in 2011 saw many drivers shake up their helmet design, and Lewis Hamilton took the opportunity to pay tribute to the legendary Bob Marley.
A few months prior to the race, the Marley family approached Lewis and asked him if he would sport the special design.
The now seven-time world champion is a big Bob Marley fan and was more than happy to follow their wishes.

Basketball

Lando Norris has run a wide range of weird and wacky designs, a Pizza-themed lid in Monza springs to mind, but our favourite has to be this Basketball helmet from Miami.
The design worked incredibly well, with the dimples giving it an incredibly realistic look and, in the home for the Miami Heat, it went down a treat.

Helmet… on a helmet

There’s just something about America, right? Daniel Ricciardo, who is a big fan of American Football, ran this helmet design on his own helmet in Austin.
The design is that of the University of Texas’ famous Longhorns, making the Australian a popular figure amongst the locals in 2019.

Maple Syrup

Nicholas Latifi finally got to enjoy his first home race at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix, and he went BIG on his lid for the occasion.
One slightly subtle feature is the oozing addition of the Great White North’s greatest export.
Now, we all know Nicky is a lover of Nutella, but he found room to pay tribute to Maple Syrup whilst in Montreal.
