This weekend, the world’s oldest active endurance racing event, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will take place and a familiar face will be on track.
2009 Formula 1 World Champion and Williams Racing Brand Ambassador Jenson Button will drive an updated NASCAR machine alongside all-star teammates Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller.
Back in Miami Grand Prix week, JB shared how he was feeling ahead of his first entry at the world-famous endurance race.
“There’s a crazy idea that someone had at NASCAR that we’d go to Le Mans for a 24-hour race with prototypes and GTE cars,” Jenson said.
“So I’m one of the drivers along with Jimmie Johnson who’s a really close friend and Mike Rockenfeller - ‘Rocky’ - again, a great friend.
“Jimmie has won seven NASCAR titles, Rocky has won DTM and Le Mans, then there’s myself.
“So, it’s a really cool line-up to race a NASCAR at Le Mans - it sounds crazy but it’s an updated NASCAR, it’s got a few more little downforce bits on it.
“More power, a bit lighter, but still, it’s going to look absolutely crazy driving that thing around Le Mans.
“And it’s so loud because the exhaust comes out the side, so I think it will be a fan favourite.
“We’re not racing to win, we’re racing to finish and to be competitive with the GT cars which I think we can be.”
