Formula 1 have today confirmed the six venues that will host Sprint races in the 2023 season - double the amount that the 2022 season saw.
The Sprint format will continue at the Austrian and São Paulo Grands Prix, while Azerbaijan, Belgium, Qatar and the United States (Austin) will also play host to the unique racing format next season.
Austin, which played host to one of the most thrilling weeks of the 2022 calendar, will be the venue for F1’s first Sprint race in the US.
These six venues were chosen after research took place to determine the suitability of tracks based on overtaking opportunities, close racing and high-speed sections.
Stefano Domenicali, F1 President & CEO, believes the Sprint format has contributed successfully to fan engagement and audience growth, saying:
“We have seen a hugely positive reaction to the F1 Sprint events during the first two years of its running, and we can’t wait to bring even more action to fans with six events next year, including our first US F1 Sprint in Austin.
“The introduction of the F1 Sprint has created a race weekend that includes three days of competitive racing action and brings more entertainment to fans of the sport as well as additional value for key stakeholders including teams, broadcasters, partners, and host venues.”
