It has been a positive fortnight at Williams after Alex and Franco’s impressive performance at the Italian Grand Prix — and the media have continued to pay close attention to the goings on at Grove.
Here’s a round-up of all the press coverage from the last few days…
Upgrade analysis
Williams’ first full aerodynamic upgrade of the campaign yielded results in Monza — and Formula1.com’s
Tech Weekly column focused on the significance of that development.
They also looked ahead to an imminent second upgrade package, which will compliment the updates first brought to the car in Zandvoort.
Target 2028
Formula1.com also reported on Team Principal James Vowles’ comments that Williams Racing see 2028 as a reasonable target when it comes to competing for Grand Prix victories.
“There’s quite a bit of investment, senior management and other elements, that are kicking in for ’26 and ’27,” he said.
“It takes time in F1. We can shortcut some bits and I’m sure we can have some faster performance [coming] to the table, but you won’t have the foundations in place, and it will collapse at some point.
”Getting it right is the real key behind being successful in F1, not for one year but for many, many years in front. [So], ’28 I’d be a lot more confident about looking you in the eyes and saying, ‘Yes’.”
Colapinto’s future
Franco will be looking to make a big impression in the final eight races of the 2024 season, despite not having a contract with Williams for 2025.
James discussed the Argentine racer’s future when speaking to the media, as seen on the
Motorsport Week website.
“Depending on how he [Franco] performs, the future to a certain extent is in his hands,” he explained.
“What I mean by that is if he performs exceptionally well, clearly he’ll remain here as a reserve driver and we’ll invest in him in terms of TPC testing and other elements that we’re able to do with him at the same time.
“You may see interest from other teams as well, depending on how he performs. So he has a future in that regard.”
Browning steps up
Williams Racing Driver Academy member Luke Browning will be stepping up to Formula 2 this weekend, competing with ART Grand Prix after his third place finishing in the Formula 3 Championship.

High Performance YouTube channel and app went behind the scenes at Williams, with an ‘access all areas’ look at what goes on at Grove.
