It’s Wednesday 8th September 2021 and you’ve just read that Alex Albon will return to the Formula 1 grid, joining Williams Racing for the 2022 season.
Fast forward to Sunday 8th September 2024 and Alex Albon has committed his future to our long-term project, aiming to help us back to the sharp end.
A lot has happened across those three years, so we’ve wrapped it into bite size chunks. Here is Albono’s time at Williams in numbers…
59
For Williams Racing drivers in years gone by, 59 race starts would have represented roughly four seasons in Formula 1. However, in the modern era, Alex’s 59 race starts for Williams takes him almost three-quarters of the way through his third season with the team.
P4
At the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Alex secured his highest grid start for Williams, matching his overall best Qualifying result when he locked in P4 at Zandvoort.
37
Alex has secured 37 points for the team across his 59 race starts in Williams blue, the first coming at the 2022 Australian Grand Prix, and the most recent coming last weekend in Monza.
P7
Albono’s best finishing position for the team in a Grand Prix is P7, securing that six-point prize on two occasions. The first came at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, with the second coming later that same season at the Italian Grand Prix.
18
We know that Alex is pretty creative, but did you know that our Thai racer has had no fewer than 17 helmet designs since his first outing for the team? Plus one that never turned a wheel on track at Monza in 2022. Think you could name all 18? Have a go, then discover the answer at the bottom of this article...

That's the number of positions gained by Albono en route to securing the team's maiden points finish in an F1 Sprint. After lining up P17 for the 100km dash around Qatar’s Lusail Circuit, our No23 pushed hard to pick up two valuable points.
3,130
That represents the number of laps raced by Albono whilst in Williams overalls. It represents roughly 88% of the total F1 race laps in that time, which is an impressive amount when you consider he was sidelined in Monza 2022.
15,656
We’ve covered off laps, but how does that shape up when converted into distance? Brace yourself. Alex has raced for 15,656km, or 9,728 miles, which would comfortably get him from the front gates of our Grove headquarters to Perth, Western Australia as the crow flies.

We couldn’t mention Alex’s time with the team without touching on his hair. In addition to his natural colour, Albono has rocked three different shades - red, blonde and platinum blonde (yes, we’re splitting up the blonde eras). In his own words, Alex has “destroyed” his hair over the past few years and is taking a break from the dye for the time being…
15
Although we’ve enjoyed Alex’s company for 59 races, unfortunately, we didn’t get to know his appendix for as long - just 15 races in fact.
